Since the Vulgate (Jerome's Latin Bible, A.D.) includes only the first 2 books of Maccabees, these are the only books pronounced canonical by the Council of Trent and included in recognized Protestant versions of the Apocrypha (see APOCRYPHA). That 1 Maccabees was used largely in the early Christian church is proved by the numerous.

Author: The Book of Ezra does not specifically name its author. The tradition is that the prophet Ezra wrote the Book of Ezra. It is interesting to note that once Ezra appears on the scene in chapter 7, the author of the Book of Ezra switches from writing in the third person to first person.   For example, 2 Esdras contains portions known in some circles as 3 Ezra, 4 Ezra, 5 Ezra, and 6 Ezra. The Ethiopian Church considers 4 Ezra to be canonical, whereas the Eastern Armenian Church labels it as 3 Ezra. Further, some scholars believe these books were written by several authors, including some possibly as late as the second century AD.

Ezra, Nehemiah & the Maccabees: Part 4 of the 7 Eras of Jerusalem Ezra, Nehemiah and the Maccabees Here we see 3 returns from Babylon (present day Iraq) led by 3 men of God and later the revolt of the Maccabees during the inter-testament period (the years between the end of the OT and the beginning the NT). The First Book of Maccabees (I Maccabees) is historical work extant in Greek, covering the period of 40 years from the accession of Antiochus Epiphanes ( B.C.E.) to the death of Simeon the Hasmonean ( B.C.E.).Its name in the Septuagint and in the writings of the Church Fathers (Eusebius and Clement) is Τα Μακκαβαïκά, i.e., "Maccabean matters" or "the Book of the Maccabees.".
